A vision of the memorial appeared to me the day after the terrorist attacks and the design was realized in the following weeks and months. It is a fountain to help cleanse the nation's wounds and an object of beauty for future generations to contemplate the impact of September 11th on our country and its people. The memorial symbolically embraces the three related, horrific events – the destruction in New York City, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
